Newly acquired Inter Miami midfielder Wil Trapp has jumped right into things with his new Club. The 27-year-old had previously spent the entirety of his professional career playing for his hometown club Columbus Crew SC, but after being acquired in a trade last Friday he has already begun adapting to his new surroundings.
âIâve been extremely impressed in just the three, four days that Iâve been here by how close everyone is in such a short amount of time,â said Trapp. âItâs been great to just be in the group and see how Diego works and how the team has been progressing. Iâve had a wonderful time adjustingâ.
The U.S. Menâs National Team midfielder also shared his excitement about getting put through the paces by his new coach and getting used to playing alongside his new teammates prior to the first-ever MLS season for the franchise.
âI think heâs very passionate about being intense, playing attacking soccer, wanting to have the ball, and keeping the ball, and it translates into how we train. I think youâll see that come to light more and more throughout the preseason and into the season,â Trapp said.
Meanwhile, the Uruguayan coach is pleased by the addition of Trapp as he supplements the roster with a talented and experienced option in midfield. Trapp has been a member of the national team since 2015, racking up 20 appearances and captaining the team for a handful of matches, while also serving as captain of his previous club for several years, including setting the record as the youngest player in MLS history to captain a team in 2014 at the age of 21 years and 122 days.
âHeâs a great addition for us,â said Head Coach Diego Alonso. âHe is an important player in an area for us which is always the heart of the team: the number six. He has great qualities to help make us a better team.â
Luis Argudo, Trappâs teammate in Columbus for two seasons and current Inter Miami teammate, also shared his excitement for the Clubâs inaugural MLS season to get underway.
âI think we are all excited. Way before any of this even happened or me getting picked up in the Expansion Draft, we saw the fan base grow and grow every day and weâre super excited to play in front of these fans.â
âI think itâs great being a player who might make history with the team in the first year in the league,â added Argudo. âIâm excited. Everyone is excited. Weâre all ready to get going and the first game canât come quick enough.â
âWe want to play a good style of soccer thatâs dominating. We want to play in the other teamâs half. We want to play quick. I think we are all bought in. Everybody wants to do well and we want to take this team to the next level.â
