Following Inter Miami CF’s announcement of star forward Luis Suárez signing a contract extension, let's take a trip down memory lane to recap El Pistolero’s top moments in his first year with the Club in which he tallied an impressive 25 goals and 13 assists across all competitions.
Player of the Month in First Month in the League
Suárez began his Inter Miami spell on a high note, being voted Major League Soccer (MLS) Player of the Month for February and March 2024 in his first month in the league. In his standout first month in MLS, he recorded five goals and three assists in just seven appearances.
The Uruguayan marksman’s five goals came from a brace in the 5-0 win over rivals Orlando City SC, another brace in the 1-3 win on the road DC United and a sole strike in the 1-1 draw against NYCFC. Suárez also dished out a pair of assists in the win against Orlando and an assist in Inter Miami’s 2024 MLS regular season opener against Real Salt Lake.
Strike in First-Ever International Club Match at Chase Stadium
2024 was a year packed with milestones for Inter Miami. Among them, was the Club hosting its first-ever international club competition match at Chase Stadium as part of the team’s debut Concacaf Champions Cup campaign. The match saw Inter Miami earn a 3-1 win over Nashville SC in the second leg of the team’s series in the Round of 16 of the competition, with Suárez opening the scoring in the 8th minute of action.
First Inter Miami Hat-Trick
One of El Pistolero’s signature performances in his first season with the Club came in the thumping 6-2 win over the New York Red Bulls in early May. The Uruguayan marksman bagged his first hat-trick for Inter Miami in what was a memorable fixture that saw the team score the most goals in a match in Club history.
Brace for Inter Miami to Clinch Third-Fastest Playoffs Berth in MLS History
Another stellar performance and further Club history achieved. Suárez’s early double in the team’s 2-0 win over FC Cincinnati in late August proved to be key and set two milestones for the Club: his first goal was the fastest in team history, while also setting a new record for most single-season goals across all competitions at the time.
Notably, his brace on the evening helped Inter Miami clinch an Audi 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs berth with eight regular season fixtures to spare and became the third-fastest team to secure a spot in the postseason in a 34-game MLS season, doing so within just 26 games.
Closing Out Historic Regular Season in Style
Another memorable night for both Suárez and Inter Miami came on MLS Decision Day in the final matchday of the team’s record-breaking 2024 regular season in October. His brace, scoring the first two goals of the match, on the evening at Chase Stadium helped Inter Miami earn a historic 6-2 over the New England Revolution to close out the 2024 regular season in style with the team establishing a new single-season points record in the league and once again scoring six, the most goals in a match in Club history.
