Inter Miami rookie forward Robbie Robinson has been named Clemson University Male Athlete of the Year at the 2020 CLEMMYs. The award is presented to âa standout individual who demonstrated outstanding athletic performance and has been instrumental to the teamâs success.â
Robinson spent the 2019 season with the Clemson Tigers before being selected No. 1 overall in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft by Inter Miami. His junior season at the university was marked with countless achievements and awards including the 2019 MAC Hermann Trophy, awarded to the nationâs top college soccer player, and First Team All-American and ACC Offensive Player of the Year designations.
The 6-foot-2 forward became the first soccer player in school history to be drafted No. 1 in a professional draft and just the second-ever student-athlete from the school drafted No. 1 overall. In 2019, Robinson topped the scoring charts in NCAA Division I with 18 goals in just 19 games. He also finished in the top 10 in assists with nine to his name.
Robinson beat out Clemson football player Travis Etienne and baseball player Logan Davidson, both nationally recognized standouts in their respective sports, to the award.
Robinsonâs Clemson menâs soccer team was nominated for two other CLEMMYs: Competition of the Year for the teamâs performance against Syracuse University and Record Breaking Performance.
