Inter Miami CF II fell 2-3 against New York City FC II this Sunday afternoon at DRV PNK Stadium in its last match of the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro season. The match featured a fourth-season goal for forward Miles Perkovich and a third-season goal for midfielder Felipe Valencia.
The match’s starting XI featured Cole Jensen in goal; Tye Barton, Farid Sar-Sar, Nykolas Sessock, and Israel Boatwright formed the back four; Jack Pymm, Ricardo Montenegro and Santiago Morales started in midfield; with forwards Alejandro Flores, Perkovich and Bryan Destin leading Miami’s attack.
The Herons opened up the match with an early goal in the 16th minute, with Perkovich stealing the show and smashing a right-footed shot under the keeper towards the back of the net.
NYCFC II will then leveled the scoring in the 25th minute with a right footed shot by forward John Denis, who was assisted by forward Matt Myers. The 1-1 scoreline held until the end of the first half.
Miami then opened up the second half strong, instantly taking control. With this early momentum, the hosts were able to take the lead with second half substitute Valencia securing the second goal of the day in the 48th minute, with a left-footed shot towards the upper left corner, coming off a great ball from Pymm, marking his first professional career assist.
Minutes later, NYCFC II earned a penalty, equalizing the score line to 2-2 with Matt Myers converting New York’s second goal of the day. Miami kept the high intensity going and remained steady on the ball with great passes and all-around play. However, the visitors struck back again taking the lead in the 70th minute with Denis scoring his second goal of the match.
The scoreline held until the final whistle with the visitors claiming the 2-3 victory.
