Inter Miami CF (5W-13L-0D, 15 points) fell 4-1 on the road against the Philadelphia Union at Subaru Park on Saturday night.
Lineup Notes
Inter Miami’s starting XI featured Drake Callender in goal; a back three in defense formed by Ian Fray, Chris McVey and Noah Allen flanked by Franco Negri and Robert Taylor; Dixon Arroyo and David Ruiz anchored the midfield with Rodolfo Pizarro and Benjamin Cremaschi playing in front of them; Josef Martínez led the team in attack.
Six Academy products featured in a First Team matchday squad for the first time in Club history, with four of them in the starting lineup: Allen, Fray, Ruiz and Cremaschi. Additionally, Inter Miami II defenders Israel Boatwright and Tyler Hall were signed on a short-term agreement and both players started tonight’s game on the bench.
Match Action
The hosts struck early on in the match, opening the scoring in the 14th minute through a header by defender Jakob Glesnes from a corner kick.
Inter Miami was then forced to make an early substitution in the 38th minute, with Robbie Robinson coming on for the injured Negri. The appearance marked the season debut for Robinson.
Philadelphia was then able to extend their lead before the half with goals by Julián Carranza in the 39th minute and Leon Flach in added time.
Inter Miami was able to shorten the host’s lead early on in the second half with a goal by Taylor in the 50th minute; Taylor received the ball from Cremaschi outside of the box and unleashed a right-footed shot that was deflected before finishing in the back of the net to score the 3-1. The goal was the second of the campaign for Taylor, while the assist was the second of the season for Cremaschi.
Philadelphia scored the final goal of the match in the 68th minute through an own goal.
Inter Miami made several substitutions throughout the second 45 minutes. Notably, Inter Miami II defender and Academy product Boatwright entered the match in the 77th minute in place of Fray to make his MLS debut.
The scoreline then held until the final whistle for Philadelphia Union to claim a 4-1 win.
Post-Match Reaction
"The feeling after this match is bad due to the final score. If you look at the control of the game, the possession, the moments in which we dominated the match, there were many, but when a team doesn't defend well, it's very difficult to win," said interim head coach Javier Morales. "We want the best for Inter Miami... we all have to support each other as a Club."
