Inter Miami CF (8W-2L-3D, 27 points) earned a valuable 2-3 win on the road tonight against CF Montréal to extend the team’s unbeaten run to seven, and winning streak to five. The team was led to victory by a fantastic free kick strike from midfielder Matías Rojas and goals by Luis Suárez and Benjamin Cremaschi.

Lineup Notes

Inter Miami lined up with Drake Callender in goal; Marcelo Weigandt, Sergii Kryvtsov, Nicolás Freire and Franco Negri made up a back line of four; Julian Gressel, Sergio Busquets, Cremaschi and Rojas started in midfield; captain Lionel Messi and Suárez led the team’s attack.

Notably, Cremaschi made his first start of the season while Kryvtsov started in what was his first action since recovering from an injury suffered on the road game against the New York Red Bulls on March 23. Additionally, Rojas made his first start for Inter Miami since signing for the Club.

Match Action

The match started off with the hosts taking an early 2-0 lead, scoring in the 22nd minute through a goal by midfielder Bryce Duke and in the 32nd minute through a goal by attacker Jules-Anthony Vilsaint.

Inter Miami, however, would get back into the match 12 minutes later through a fantastic free kick goal from Rojas to make the score 2-1 in the 44th minute. The goal was the third for Rojas this regular season, and third in his last two matches.

Right when it seemed as if the hosts would enter the half with the lead, Inter Miami found the equalizer. In the third minute of added time, Suárez sent the ball to the back of the net following a corner kick to tie the scoring at 2-2. The goal was Suárez’s team-leading and league-leading 11th of 2024.

Inter Miami then kicked off the second half in search of the leading goal and was rewarded early on. In the 59th minute, a sublime ball from Rojas found Cremaschi in space before the midfielder settled the ball and beat the keeper inside the box to put Inter Miami’s ahead to 2-3. The goal was the second for Cremaschi this regular season, while the assist was Rojas’ first since joining the Club.

The scoreline then remained unchanged throughout the final minutes and Inter Miami won 2-3 to claim the three points and clinch the team’s first-ever road win at Stade Saputo.

Post-Match Reaction

“I think they had a very good first half. We tried with a line of five to create a little pressure further forward. It was a bit difficult for us in the game, they scored two goals against us but I think Matia [Rojas’] goal put us in the game. We started to play differently, we came back to what we always do again and there we undoubtedly feel better,” said head coach Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino.
