Fort Lauderdale CF fell to USL League One leaders Union Omaha 4-1 on Wednesday night.
Fort Lauderdale scored the first goal of the night against the home team in the 23rd minute; George Acosta dribbled toward the sideline deep in his own half before delivering a precise long ball over the top to a run from Mitch Curry, who then took on a defender, cutting inside onto his right foot and back out onto his left foot before delivering a pinpoint, left-footed low cross from the left wing to Shaan Hundal in front of goal, who struck a calm close-range finish into the back of the net. The goal was Hundal’s team-leading eighth of the season, while the assist was Curry’s fourth, second on the team behind Acosta.
Ten minutes later, Union Omaha’s Greg Hurst drove down the field before sending a swift pass to his right to meet Evan Conway. Conway continued driving down the right side of the box before striking the ball into the net to score the equalizer.
In the final minutes of the first half, Union Omaha scored again with a powerful kick from Greg Hurst to put the ball into the roof of the net, securing the advantage against Fort Lauderdale before the teams headed into the locker room.
The second half opened with a Union goal from Devon Boyce, who was able to find the ball in space and hit a shot from the middle of the box in the 49th minute. In the 58th minute, George Hurst scored again for Union Omaha with a counter down the center of the field before striking a shot into the net.
Next, Fort Lauderdale CF will finish up a two-game week by returning home to South Florida to face South Georgia Tormenta FC at DRV PNK Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 10 at 7:30 p.m ET.
