Inter Miami CF (11W-3L-5D, 38 points) is back for midweek MLS regular season action, with the team set to host host reigning MLS Cup champions Columbus Crew (7W-2L-6D, 27 points) this Wednesday, June 19. The matchup at Chase Stadium is set to get underway at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Previous Match

Inter Miami earned three valuable points on the road on Saturday night with a hard-fought 1-2 win against the Philadelphia Union at Subaru Park despite going down two men in the second half. The match saw Homegrown attacker Leo Afonso, who earned his first Royal Caribbean Icon of the Match award, score a late winner for the team in stoppage time, while midfielder Julian Gressel recorded his first goal for the Club to earn the result on the night.

Notably, with the win Inter Miami extended its Club-record unbeaten run on the road to six, helping maintain the team atop the MLS Supporters’ Shields race.

MLS Team of the Matchday Honors for Afonso

Inter Miami Academy product and forward Afonso was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for Week 20. Afonso entered the team's match against Phildelhia Union over the weekend as a second-half substitute and bagged a late winner in the dying moments of the match to seat three crucial points on the road for the Herons.

Inter Miami in 2024 MLS Regular Season

Inter Miami (11W-3L-5D) will host the Columbus Crew currently sitting first in the Supporters' Shield Standings with 38 points (two points ahead of second place) and leading the league in goals with a total 44 goals (eight more than the next team). Additionally, only LA Galaxy (7) have scored more goals from counterattacks than Inter Miami (6).

Player Records and Milestones

Captain Lionel Messi and forward Leonardo Campana are the two active leading scorers in Club history, with Campana having 27 across all competitions (24 in MLS) and Messi 25 (13 in MLS). They trail Gonzalo Higuaín who scored 29 times for Inter Miami (all in MLS).

Messi (15 in MLS), meanwhile, leads the team with the most assists in Club history with 20 across all competitions each and attacker Robert Taylor (13 in MLS) is second with 19 assists across all competitions.

Goalkeeper Drake Callender and Taylor are tied as the players with most appearances in Club history with 95 across all competitions. In terms of MLS appearances, Taylor is first with 77 (one in playoffs), while Callender is second with 76 (one in playoffs each).

International Duty

Inter Miami attackers Messi and Luis Suárez and midfielder Matías Rojas will miss the team's home game against Columbus as they currently are away on international duty with their respective nationals teams ahead of the start of the 2024 CONMEBOL Copa América.

The three players will be away with their national teams at least until the end of the Copa América's group stage, which is scheduled to take place from June 20 through July 2. The competition's knockout rounds will then begin with the quarterfinals on July 4 and will conclude on July 14 with the final.

Previously Against the Columbus Crew

Inter Miami and Columbus Crew have previously matched up six times in MLS regular season action, with the team registering three wins, two losses and a draw.

Last time out both sides met was in July of last year, with Inter Miami and Columbus Crew playing out a hard fought 2-2 at Chase Stadium.

Familiar Faces

Inter Miami defender Jordi Alba and midfielder Sergio Busquets may once again face Columbus Crew forward Cucho Hernández after previously matching up against him in Spain during their FC Barcelona tenures. At the time, Hernández featured for several Spanish sides, including SD Huesca, RCD Mallorca and Getafe FC.

Scouting the Columbus Crew

The reigning MLS Cup champions will visit South Florida after most recently earning a 2-3 win on the road over New York City FC this past weekend. In all, the Crew have recorded seven wins, two losses and six draws for a total 27 points this regular season and sit sixth in the Eastern Conference table.

Attacker Cucho Hernández leads Columbus in goals this regular season with five, while fellow forward Diego Rossi is the leader in assists with five to his name.
