Familiar Faces
The match may feature reunions between former teammates or rivals for several Inter Miami and Chicago Fire players. Goalkeeper Nick Marsman and defender Kelvin Leerdam may face former Dutch rival Johan Kappelhof. Marsman faced Kappelhof four times during his time with Twente FC. Leerdam may face Kappelhof who he has played against 11 times in his career, including six times in the Dutch league, the Eredivisie, while also having been Kappelhof’s teammate on the Netherlands U21 team.
Reunions may be in the cards for a handful of Argentine players. Inter Miami defenders Leandro González Pírez and Nicolás Figal may face former rival Gastón Giménez. LGP faced Giménez twice during his stints with River Plate and Atlético Tigre. Figal, meanwhile, played against Giménez in 2018 during his stint with Club Atlético Independiente.
Lastly, defender Christian Makoun may face compatriot Miguel Ángel Navarro. The duo featured together as teammates in ten matches for the Venezuelan U21 team. Most recently they shared the pitch together in an international friendly against the United States U19 team in 2018. Inter Miami’s Blaise Matuidi may face former rival Robert Beric. The pair faced off three times during Matuidi’s career with Paris Saint-Germain. Midfielder Rodolfo Pizarro may encounter Jonathon Bornstein after playing against him in a series of matches during his tenure with CF Pachuca.
