Fort Lauderdale CF continues its inaugural USL League One season on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 6:30 p.m. ET, facing the Richmond Kickers on the road. The match at City Stadium will be the first one between the sides and will air live on ESPN+.
Fort Lauderdale is coming off of a narrow 1-2 defeat against South Georgia Tormenta FC in a highly contested match at Inter Miami CF Stadium. In the match, 16-year-old winger Edison Azcona, who is registered as an Inter Miami CF Academy player, scored the team’s only goal in the fifth minute of play; he had also registered one goal and an assist in the team’s previous match. Overall, Azcona has tallied 3 goals and 1 assist thus far in his first season as a professional.
It will be Fort Lauderdale’s first match against the Kickers as part of the team’s inaugural season; the sides were set to play in Richmond, Va., on Aug. 1 prior to the postponement of the match.
In 2019, the Richmond Kickers finished eighth in the league’s ten team table, missing out of the playoffs. Overall, the team compiled a record of 9 wins, 5 draws and 14 losses. Last season the team was led by midfielder Matthew Bolduc, who recorded 6 assists, and forward Dennis Chin, who scored five goals.
So far this season, the Kickers have recorded four wins, two draws and two losses and are currently fourth in the table. In 2020 the team has been led by Argentine forward Emiliano Terzaghi, who currently sits atop the USL League One scoring charts with 7 goals this season.
