Fort Lauderdale CF will travel to Arlington, Texas, for its third fixture of the 2021 USL League One campaign against North Texas SC on Saturday, April 24 at 8:30 p.m. ET. The game, which will air live on ESPN+, will be played on Globe Life Park and will be the team’s second away match of their 28-game regular-season schedule.
Last weeks’ matchday visit against South Georgia resulted in a composed 0-1 victory for Fort Lauderdale, their first win of the season. Forward Shaan Hundal scored the winning goal in the 23rd minute to secure the three points; his goal was voted USL League One Goal of the Week for weeks one and two.
Darren Powell has also earned his first win at the helm following his appointment as head coach of Fort Lauderdale CF in March.
“Last week the boys played very competitively and showed some progression...Every week we want to progress and be as competitive as possible in each of the games,” said Powell. “This week we want to look to put it together on both sides of the ball and be very positive and aggressive when we’re in possession and when we’re out of possession.
“North Texas is a well-coached team and has a collection of good players. We expect another competitive game.”
North Texas, FC Dallas’ League One affiliate, will open their 2021 USL League One regular season against Fort Lauderdale CF on Saturday. In 2020, they finished the season in third place and were knocked out 4-1 by Forward Madison FC in the playoff semifinals.
In 2019, North Texas claimed both the inaugural USL League One title and USL League One regular season title.
Saturday’s matchup will be the third meeting between Fort Lauderdale and North Texas, having faced each other twice in the 2020 regular season. Last season, each team won their home fixture in the series, with defender Ethan Hardin featuring in both encounters.
Venton Evans Cleared to Play
Fort Lauderdale CF midfielder Venton Evans has been cleared to play his first match of the 2021 season following the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and P-1 Visa.
Academy Registration Joins Team
Jason Bucknor, 19, will join the team as an Inter Miami CF Academy registration. The wide player featured for Fort Lauderdale in 2020, appearing in 11 of the team’s 16 matches.
