Fort Lauderdale CF will be back at DRV PNK Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 19 at 7:30 p.m. ET to take on South Georgia Tormenta FC. The match will air live on ESPN+.
“Right now, with the stage that we’re at, every point matters for the playoffs, so you’ll find two very determined teams. I think we probably can anticipate a slightly different game than the previous two, but our job is to focus on our players and make sure that we’re ready and that we play the way that we want to play,” said head coach Darren Powell.
Following a tough 3-0 loss on the road against FC Tucson, Fort Lauderdale is looking to bounce back with a home win against South Georgia before the team hits the road for two consecutive away games. In the previous matchup between the two clubs, Fort Lauderdale CF defeated South Georgia 2-4 on the road at ERK Russell Park. In the late-August meeting, Shaan Hundal scored his seventh goal of the season while George Acosta netted a brace and Braxton Najib contributed a goal in the second half. Tormenta FC continued to battle throughout the game and scored two late goals.
Tormenta FC is coming off of a 2-0 home win against North Texas SC. In the victory, midfielder Luca Mayr-Fälten and forward Azaad Liadi scored. Tormenta’s goalkeeper Pablo Jara is currently in second place in the USL for saves with 61. Meanwhile, Luca Mayr-Fälten has the most crosses in the league with 145.
South Georgia Tormenta FC currently sits in fifth place in the USL League One standings with 28 points recording eight wins, 11 losses and four draws. Meanwhile, Fort Lauderdale CF is looking for a late season playoff push as the team sits in seventh place with 26 points having recorded seven wins, 10 losses, and five draws so far in the 2021 season. The team is currently tied with the most goals scored in League One with 31.
