Inter Miami CF announced today that it has signed fullback Israel Boatwright and midfielder Lawson Sunderland on short-term loan agreements from the Club’s MLS NEXT Pro team Inter Miami CF II. Sunderland and Boatwright will be available for Saturday’s MLS match on the road against the New England Revolution at 7:30 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium.
Boatwright, 18, also made his debut for Inter Miami CF II in 2022 while being on an Academy contract and was signed to a professional contract with the team last month. In all, he has registered 11 MLS NEXT Pro appearances to date, recording a goal and an assist in the process.
Sunderland, 21, joined Inter Miami CF II ahead of the 2022 MLS NEXT Pro season and has gone on to make 30 appearances, 25 of them starts, to date, scoring three goals and registering two assists as well. This season, the midfielder has made 12 appearances, starting nine times, and registered two goals and an assist.
On the international stage, Sunderland has previously been called up by the USYNT U-18 side, while Boatwright has represented the Dominican Republic at both youth and senior levels. The right back most recently featured for the Dominican Republic U-20 national team at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Argentina in what was a historic first participation for the country in a FIFA World Cup tournament.
Per MLS rules, the short-term agreement allows clubs to sign players on loan from their MLS NEXT Pro affiliate for MLS, U.S. Open Cup, Concacaf Champions League, Canadian Championship and exhibition matches.
