Inter Miami CF announced today that it has signed defender Sami Guediri through the 2021 Major League Soccer (MLS) season, with a Club option for 2022 and an additional option for 2023. The Boca Raton, Fla. native makes the jump to the First Team from the Club’s USL League One team, Fort Lauderdale CF.
“Sami has had a strong preseason with us coming off of a good first year with Fort Lauderdale,” said Chris Henderson, Inter Miami CF Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director. “His development has been impressive since moving from midfield to left back and we feel he has more room for growth with the First Team.”
Guediri, 23, appeared in all 16 matches for Fort Lauderdale in 2020, starting in 14 of them, totaling 1,290 minutes of play and registering two assists. The left back also earned League One Player of the Week honors for Week 9 of the 2020 campaign after playing a key role at both ends of the pitch in the team’s 2-0 victory over Orlando City B on Sept. 19.
Fort Lauderdale signed Guediri as a free agent in July 2020 ahead of the team’s inaugural campaign.
Prior to joining Fort Lauderdale, Guediri spent the 2019 season with USL League One side Greenville Triumph. He made 17 appearances, 16 coming in the regular season and one in a playoffs. In the early stages of his career, he gained experience with former USL League Two side SIMA Águilas in 2018 and with German sides BW Friesdorf (2016-2017) and VfL Alfter in 2017.
