“We face the upcoming match with great enthusiasm, positive and always moving forward with our head up high. This is like in the neighborhood when you get hit when you’re a child. There are people who see blood and run away and there are people who see blood and want to face the problem. In this case to make the comparison, we lost and what we want is to move forward to what comes next. We want to face the game that we have head-on to be able to go out and give it all to do our best,” said manager DIego Alonso. “We’ll continue moving forward with our heads up high and staying positive, trying to be better every day, because you learn from it all. You learn from victories, you learn from draws and you also learn from defeats. You learn to correct mistakes and you grow in character. The character always has to be that of a winner, positive, courageous, without fear of making mistakes”.
Inter Miami is coming off of a difficult 0-3 loss on the road against the Philadelphia Union. The match saw striker Gonzalo Higuaín, the team’s newest addition, make his Inter Miami debut by playing the full 90 minutes. The Argentine could make his first appearance at Inter Miami CF Stadium on Saturday.
This matchup will be the second of the regular season for Inter Miami against New York City FC, as the sides previously met in their final group stage game of the MLS is Back Tournament on July 14. NYCFC won 0-1 in a highly contested match the first time the teams faced each other.
The upcoming match could also present a clash between Inter Miami fullback Ben Sweat and his former side. Sweat featured for NYCFC in 77 matches between 2017 and 2019, helping the team qualify to the playoffs each year while recording one goal and nine assists.
New York City FC will come into this weekend’s game following a 4-0 win at home over FC Cincinnati. The New York based-side currently sits sixth in the Eastern Conference table, having put together a record of 6 wins, 2 draws and 6 losses to date this season.
The team has been led by defender Anton Tinnerholm, who has registered three goals and two assists so far this season, and forward Alexandru Mitrita, who has tallied two goals and two assists.
