Inter Miami CF goalkeeper Drake Callender has been called up by the United States Men’s National Team for an upcoming training camp and friendly fixture to kick off 2024. Callender will first partake in a training camp in Orlando, FL from Jan. 8 to 16 before the team heads to San Antonio, TX to open their 2024 schedule facing Slovenia in a friendly at Toyota Field on Saturday, Jan. 20.Â
Coverage of the USA’s first match of the year begins at 3 p.m. ET on TNT, Telemundo, Universo, MAX and Peacock. Live Spanish-language audio for the match will be available on Fútbol de Primera radio.
Callender features in the list of 25 MLS-based players after earning his first call ups for the USMNT 2023. Notably, the 26-year-old was part of the squad as the team clinched the 2022-23 Concacaf Nations League title in June.Â
At the club level, Callender enjoyed a stellar season leading the line for Inter Miami in 2023, earning Defensive Player of the Year honors and finishing the year as the player on the team with most appearances across all competitions (46), registering eight clean sheets in the process. Notably, Callender was key in the team’s 2023 Leagues Cup title-winning campaign, including scoring his kick from the spot and stopping the last penalty in the shootout against Nashville SC in the final to help Inter Miami win a historic first official trophy for the First Team. The Sacramento, California native was also rewarded individually for his performances throughout the season, earning Leagues Cup Best Goalkeeper award honors, being named five times to the MLS Team of the Matchday and receiving his first USMNT call ups.
