Inter Miami CF II players Modesto Mendez and Dairon Reyes have been called up to the Cuban senior national team for its upcoming international friendlies. The team will first take on Guatemala on Thursday, March 24, followed by Belize on Saturday, March 26.
Mendez, 24, was recently called up to Inter Miami’s First Team on a short-term loan agreement for its second MLS match of 2022. The defender was a mainstay for Inter Miami CF II in 2021, starting 18 of its matches.
Reyes, 18, is a product of the Inter MIami CF Academy who also featured for Inter Miami CF II in 2021. The young attacker made 11 appearances for the team last season, all off the bench, and registered one assist.
Both Mendez and Reyes have previously been called up for the Cuban senior national team, making appearances in FIFA World Cup Qualifiers and international friendlies.
Reyes made his senior debut for Cuba in June 2021 in a FIFA World Cup Qualifier against the British Virgin Islands, coming off the bench to register a goal and an assist in just 26 minutes of play en route to a 5-0 victory. He has gone on to make three more appearances for the team including two starts.
Mendez, meanwhile, made his senior debut in June 2021 in a FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. The defender started and played the full 90 minutes in that match, helping the team keep a clean sheet and earn a 1-0 victory. Mendez has since made two additional appearances for Cuba, starting and playing the full 90 minutes in two international friendlies.
