Inter Miami CF Homegrown midfielder and Academy product David Ruiz has been called up by the Honduras U-23 Men’s National Team for the upcoming 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile taking place from Oct. 23 to Nov. 4.
Honduras and Ruiz are in Group B alongside USA, Colombia, and Brazil. The top two teams in the group will advance to the semifinals of the competition set for Wednesday, Nov. 1, while the third- and fourth-placed sides will play in the fifth- and seventh-place matches to be played the same day. The tournament will then conclude on Sunday, Nov. 4 with the Bronze and Gold medal games.

The youngster was called up to represent Honduras in September during the start of the CONCACAF Nations League tournament. He made his senior team debut on the international stage for Honduras during matchday two, coming on as a second-half substitute in a 4-0 win against Grenada. Prior to this exciting career milestone, Ruiz also represented Honduras at the youth levels this year; notably, he played for the team in the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Argentina, where he started one game and scored the team’s first goal in the competition against South Korea in the group stage, as well as in a U-20 training camp in April.
Ruiz has made a total of 30 appearances for Inter Miami across all competitions this season, 16 of them starts, while netting three goals and dishing out one assist. Notably, he came up big during the team’s 2023 Leagues Cup title run when matching up against Philadelphia Union in the semifinals, scoring a goal in the 1-4 victory.
