Fort Lauderdale CF fell 4-2 on the road in its third matchup of the regular season against North Texas SC in the USL League One campaign. The game at Apogee Stadium kicked off at 8:30 p.m. ET and aired live on ESPN+.
Fort Lauderdale opened the match with only one change from last weeks’ starting XI; Jamaican midfielder Venton Evans replaced Drew Hardin, making his first appearance of the season.
The game opened with Evans scoring in his season debut following an excellent cross from Noah Allen to hand Fort Lauderdale the 0-1 lead in the 13th minute. The assist was Allen’s first with the team.
North Texas didn’t take long to retaliate with a volley from Thibaut Jacquel in the 27th minute to tie the game 1-1. Following a few half-chances, both teams entered halftime level.
The second half began with Fort Lauderdale once again taking the lead in the 55th minute after Christian Lue Young made a pinpoint cross on the right flank to Shaan Hundal, who finished comfortably into an open net for his second goal of the campaign.
North Texas struck back in the 70th minute with Thibaut Jacquel scoring a free kick on the edge of the 18-yard box to level the match 2-2. They then took the lead in the 72nd minute after Gibran Rayo gave them a 3-2 advantage before Bernard Kamungo scored in the 79th minute to seal the 4-2 win for North Texas.
Next up for Fort Lauderdale is a home fixture against the Richmond Kickers at the DRV PNK Stadium on Sunday, May 2nd at 7:30 p.m. ET.
