Inter Miami CF Signs Goalkeeper Nick Marsman

Inter Miami CF announced today it has signed Nick Marsman to a contract that will run through the 2023 MLS season. The Dutch goalkeeper will join the Club in July following two years with Feyenoord Rotterdam in the Eredivisie, the first division in the Netherlands.

Marsman will occupy an international roster slot and is pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and P-1 Visa.

“We are pleased to welcome Nick to Inter Miami. He brings a wealth of qualities both in and out of possession which will impact and complement our style of play,” said Chris Henderson, Inter Miami CF’s Chief Soccer Officer & Sporting Director. “We head into the 2021 season confident that our strength this year at the goalkeeper position will come from our combined qualities. Nick’s addition alongside John McCarthy, Drake Callender and Dylan Castanheira, who have already impressed in preseason, reinforces our ambition and intent to have a high level of competition at every position."

Marsman, 30, registered a total of 136 Eredivisie appearances since making his debut in 2011, primarily for FC Twente and Feyenoord Rotterdam. The goalkeeper also gained valuable experience by competing in the UEFA Europa League during his time plying his trade in his home country.

The Zwolle, Netherlands native began his career at Twente, where he came through the youth ranks before making his debut for the senior side in Oct. 2011 in an Eredivisie match. He went on to make 121 appearances across all competitions for the team, recording 29 clean sheets in the process.

During his tenure at Twente, Marsman was sent out on loan to fellow Dutch side Go Ahead Eagles for the 2012-2013 campaign, where he competed in the Netherlands’ second division. He was the first-choice goalkeeper in his sole season with the team, racking up 41 appearances across all competitions and recording nine clean sheets.

Marsman then left Twente on a permanent deal in the summer of 2017 to join Eredivisie side FC Utrecht. He spent two seasons with the team, playing for both the first team and the reserves, before joining Feyenoord in July 2019.

In his two seasons at Feyenoord, Marsman made 29 appearances across all competitions, including five starts in the Europa League, and registered 12 clean sheets. Most recently, he became the team’s first choice goalkeeper and was a regular for the side in the ongoing 2020-2021 campaign; this season, Marsman has made 25 appearances in all competitions, tallying 10 clean sheets for the side currently sitting fifth in the Eredivisie standings. He also earned Eredivisie Team of the Month honors in March for his stellar performances in the team’s three league matches throughout the month.

On the international stage, Marsman represented the Netherlands youth national teams on four occasions, making his debut for the U-20 side in a friendly match against Mexico in May 2012.
