Inter Miami CF announced today it has signed Free Agent goalkeeper Luis Robles.
The Major League Soccer (MLS) veteran joins the Club after eight seasons with the New York Red Bulls.
“Luis has had a storied MLS career and we are excited that it will continue in Miami,” said Inter Miami’s Sporting Director Paul McDonough. “We look forward to his contributions ahead of our inaugural MLS season.”
Robles has enjoyed a fruitful career to this point, winning the Supporters’ Shield with the Red Bulls in 2013, 2015 and 2018. He was also named MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2015.
The 35-year-old started 238 MLS regular season games for the Red Bulls, keeping 72 clean sheets in that time, the eighth most in league history. In the 2018 season, Robles kept a club-record and career-high 14 clean sheets. He holds the record for most consecutive MLS regular season starts, being named to the Red Bulls starting eleven 183 times in a row from 2012 to 2018. He is also sixth all-time in MLS history with 114 goalkeeper wins.
On the international stage, Robles has represented the U.S. Men’s National Team, receiving three caps in his career. He made his debut for the senior team at the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup, starting in a game against Haiti. He also appeared in friendlies against Iceland and Jamaica.
Robles is the 16th player signed to the Club’s inaugural roster.
Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami, also known as Inter Miami CF, will play its first-ever home match on Saturday, March 14, at 2:30 p.m. ET, against the LA Galaxy at the new 19,000 seat Fort Lauderdale Stadium, where the Club will play for the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
Located off Commercial Boulevard and I-95, the stadium stands adjacent to the Club’s new 50,000 square foot state of the art training facility which includes seven professional fields. The facility will be the home to all Inter Miami teams including MLS, USL League One and Academy. It will also host international clubs, tournaments and local high school sporting events.
